Yeah, they’re going to have to do some serious work but I don’t think it’ll be too long before an mk3n crops up. Canon chap promised that they will not be leaving owners of the mk3 high and dry so they obviously plan on keeping it for a while. Guess it means I’ll just have to struggle for another year as everyone on all sides racks up the ISO.. *sob*

That’s interesting, it’s only a year ago that Canon updated the 1d-series. Nikon really timed it well. Buyers holding out for new Canons are going to be very patient people, I don’t see Canon rushing out a new model before it’s ready, not after the (apparent) AF issues with the 1d mk3.

hehe As far as I know, some bureaus had remained on Nikon throughout (poor buggars..) so it isn’t quite the case that there are suddenly skips full of mk2n bodies around the world!

Nikon have been VERY active in courting new customers though which has both positive and negative sides. On the positive side, it was nice trying out the kit a while ago and I just had a call from Nikon UK a few hour ago asking if I wanted to borrow it again. On the downside, the photographers who stuck with Nikon through their “dark” period are now left feeling a little ignored as Nikon chase the new clients.

As I said, after trying the D3, I would happily change over as I’ve only heard a couple of negative comments from all the people I’ve met. However, Canon have to come back with something stunning sooner or later (preferably sooner) so I’ll remain patient. I talked to the chief buyer at AFP last week as he was out at the EUROs too and he now knows my thoughts so we’ll see what unfolds!

That’s pretty huge isn’t it, that half the agencies swapped? It’s not a decision to be taken lightly, all that re-investment in lenses, Canon must be fuming.

When AFP do switch offer them 100 quid for that redundant 24L on my behalf. thx

No problem! Without getting TOO technical, I’m very interested to see what Canon do next and I’m sure AFP would be happier as it would save them having to change all the big lenses but who knows when Canon are going to regain the upper hand? *gazes into crystal ball*

Half the bureaus did, half stayed on Canon. I can’t deny that I’m trying to push for a brace of D3 bodies after trying them at a swimming championships in Manchester. Awesome kit.

Thanks, babe. I wasn’t keen on the version that AFP put out of Arsene though so I’ll proabably refile when I get back to London. As far as colour goes, to make it easier for the editors in Paris, I’ve gone back to sRGB. May well herald a return to the low gamut fold.. :0
