As I’m trying to put together a selection of audio slideshows for presentation I might end up doing, I thought I’d post one on here to see how (and more importantly if) it works. Please feel free to give me any feedback on how you think it looks as it’s all a bit new to me! As any regular readers may remember, I did a detailed blog on the MSC Napoli in April here.
All images, as usual, by Leon Neal. Music by Dan Worrall.

While it may not be the most understandable of celebrations, this last weekend saw two days of performance and enjoyment of domestic violence, ghosts and crocodiles as Mr Punch turned 350 years old. First performed in the UK in Covent Garden, London in 1662, the traditional story involves a core theme of anarchy, failed babysitting, [...]

With my self-preservation system in full effect, I was assigned to covering the events and features of Tripoli and after weeks of extensive coverage by my colleagues, it was getting harder to find new angles to cover. Still, while ever I wasn’t being shot at, I could always look on the positive side! One of [...]

Leon, long time blog-follower, first time feedback.
I do like these video pieces and yours is no exception.
Two points – picking the music is crucial. You may be a photographer by trade but to be successful with these videos, the background music has to suit. Usually music pieces give one emotional feeling, so be aware that contrasting photos (guy laughing on bike, sea birds being rescued) can sit oddly with whatever music is used.
And second, not sure if portrait photos work in this format. All the black around them, does seem right. But these limits you to landscape shots only, which I guess is far from ideal.
By the way, liked the music too. Hope this helps.
Nic
Hi Nic, Cheers for the feedback. I get what you mean on both counts. I chose Dan’s song as I like his use of mood in his songs through key and modes. While it’s difficult to find a piece of music that can match both the ups and downs of a story like this, I don’t think it clashes too badly. Were you in favour of that music with this set?
Also, the portrait thing is certainly a pain in the way it sits but the final slideshows will be run fullscreen where the viewer will hopefully not feel as much of their view is wasted by the dead space. Fingers crossed!
Thanks again for your comments and continued reading of my rambles!
I thought that was great. More please!
Thanks Tom. As it is, I only have a few that I like at the moment but want to have something shiny and new to show at the photo forum. I’ve done slideshows of Glastonbury 09, Sonisphere 09, Israeli elections the MSC Napoli and my portfolio so far. I’ll sort a few more out, hopefully with a soundtrack other than music and stick them up. Thanks again for taking the time to leave your feedback!
Love it. I remember when you drove down to shoot this and how much it affected you. Great slideshow…
Hey man – you made the big picture again, although its in its portfolio of people kissing, and I thought the people in the photograph pictured were trying to hide their face? Picture 4

Nice one! Cheers for the heads up! When I saw the theme, I thought it’d be the couple kissing on the dance floor from Glastonbury but it’s even better to see the Climate Camp had SOME purpose..
As I hear the music, I can visualise A guy with a rip in his pants. Am I going crazy or do I have a gift?
hehe You certainly have a gift!
Mr. W in all his glory alright! Welcome to my blog, old chap!
